the last couple of weeks ...

Life's been too hectic for blogging, so here are some pics in lieu of too many words ;)

I have changed my dreads! They are now peacock / mermaid dreads (I haven't decided which is more appropriate), with Crazy Color Peacock Blue and Crazy Color Violette hair dye.

How I wear them when I want them out of my face:

Close up, in the sun to show you the brightness of the colours - woah there!

View from the front of our house - not bad, huh? :P

My finished tapestry sampler - we had to weave a face. I added grey to my usual black and white face palette - I'm pleased with it!

This weekend will be two days of intensive tapestry weaving ... as well as doing the next Elements Of Design assignment. Not sure whether all Diploma Of Tapestry students know this, but the course will be changing in 2014 - please contact Cathy if you're not aware!

Regardless, I have decided to do my 4th year over 2 years to lessen my workload, and will be taking at least one day off work a month to concentrate on getting some art pieces done for a future exhibition I'm aiming for in 2014. These will all be part of the Goth/Deathrock Subculture series, and will be a combination of woven tapestry and cross stitch on canvas. I'm so excited!!

  1. Really like your new hair colours! And that's so exciting about the exhibition. I can hardly wait to see what pieces you come up with for it! :D

    1. Thank you! I'm trying really hard not to miss the pink too much!! ;)

I can't wait to have more time to come up with one-off pieces - I will be starting my first cross stitch piece soon ;)

  2. Amazing hair colour! It suits you.
Nice trick to add grey to your weaving. I beleive it's easier to weave detailed pictures with grey added.

    1. Aww thanks Therese! My lecturer actually suggested adding colours other than white for faces - I didn't want to use flesh colours, so thought grey would be a good option ;)

  3. I love that someone else calls blue hair mermaid hair! I thought it was just me! You look amazing!

I hope all your classwork goes well! I am really behind in mine thanks to getting sick so I really need to get onto it, so probably not much blogging for me for a while, either!

    1. Haa, when I had the dreads made, they were 'peacock' colours, but since we live near the ocean, I think 'mermaid' is more appropriate ;)

Sorry to hear you've been sick - do you have strict deadlines, or have you had an extension?

  4. color looks great!
do you prefer crazy color over directions in terms of it lasting/ fading etc.?
I'm hitting directions turquoise and apple green pretty hard right now to get a "ocean blue" thing going....close enough to mermaids, though ;)

    1. Thank you!

Well, my colour has been in for nearly 2 weeks now, and the Violette has faded pretty quickly to a pastel purple (which is to be expected, since I usually refresh Manic Panic colours every week anyway). Surprisingly though, the Peacock Blue is still bright and vibrant - very impressed!

I haven't used Directions before - is it similar to Manic Panic?

    2. heya! yes, it's like Manic Panic, which I also used to use, but directions are easier to get a hold of right now ;)
have to say thought that MP Purple haze used to cover my brown roots waaay better than blue Directions :( now having to go darker with the dye overall to avoid constant bleaching.

sorry for another hair-related question, but have you ever tried going "no poo"? I've been wanting to, but my hair gets greasy pretty quickly and I don't know if the backing soda etc. rinses will make my dye wash out quicker.

    3. No worries! I always shampoo and condition after colouring, though my hairdresser doesn't after the bright colours. I find that if you don't shampoo, the colour comes off on your skin more ... it lasts a little bit longer, but not enough to make it worth while in my opinion ;)
