green beauty

Oh, I've been very slack with my Green Beauty updates! Probably because my skincare and makeup regime have settled down with products I'm very happy with ... but I just realised that there were a few I haven't shared - naughty me!

Night Cream - for those (like me) with very dry skin, night cream is excellent for when you want moisturiser with extra oomph! I always use facial oil, but sometimes I need something more. I found MuLondon, and couldn't resist buying their Organic Marigold, Frankincense & Myrrh Moisturiser. It is gorgeous - smells good, completely natural and VERY moisturising.

For those days when your skin doesn't need as much moisture (and this is one that Anita loves), then you can try their delicious-smelling Organic White Chocolate Truffle Face Moisturiser - heavenly!

Boris, who makes these products (and more!) is very helpful too, so make sure you swing by!

The next company is Skin Apotheke by Zria on Etsy. Since I've been treating my hyper-pigmentation long-term, I thought I'd try some different (cheaper) products. I came across the Organic Anti Aging Eye and Pigmentation Serum, and have been using it for a couple of weeks. It's a beautiful oil-based serum, and I'm looking forward to trying more products from her range. They're all based on Ayurvedic principles, and are as organic as she can make them.

Last but not least ... natural sunscreen, which has been the bane of my existence!! My favourite is still the Petite Marie, but after losing 2 of my orders (and consequently having to wait a couple of months to receive them), I'm pretty reluctant to order from her again! It's been a while, so maybe I'll try one more time ... but right now I'm using MyChelle Replenishing Solar Defense SPF 30. It's quite a light lotion, but weirdly OK for my dry skin! Even Anita likes the texture of it. It's very sophisticated (I have in my head that natural products should be a bit 'rough', if that makes sense?) - you wouldn't know it was chemical-free if you glanced at it.

It's difficult finding natural sunscreen in Australia - most won't ship here. I purchased this from iherb.com, and there are a few to choose from on there (the Devita is also good).

OK, I think that's all for the moment!

health update

SureSlim is going well - I have now lost 5.5kg (12.1 lbs)!  That's after 3 weeks, which is quite unexpected :O  So I'm now down to 61kg (134.2 lbs) - woo hoo!  Can't wait to get under 60 ;)

This morning was the first time I noticed any difference in my clothes - a zip-up skirt that I wear to work went on more effortlessly than usual - yay!  And I've had more energy at my Body Synergy classes recently too.

As for the programme - it's a great eating programme, but there really isn't any support available.  I've had a couple of queries, and have tried emailing and calling, both with no response.  As soon as I post publicly on the Facebook page however, I suddenly get answers.  So if you're looking for a programme that is supportive, then SureSlim is not for you.  But if you're like me, and would prefer to be left alone to get on with it, then it's great ;)

Yesterday's eating was as follows:
Breakfast:  Tub (175g) soy yoghurt with 1 pear and seeds (2 tbsp linseeds, 2 tbsp pepitas and 1 tbsp sunflower seeds)
Lunch:  Bean salad (with cucumber, avocado, red capsicum), 3 Vitawheat crackers, 5 almonds
Dinner:  110g fresh salmon poached with 115g vegies (fennel, green beans, peas and a salsa made of tomato and red onion) with 1 tbsp olive oil.  1 apple.
Drinks:  2L water, 2 cups black coffee (no milk in coffee or tea!), 1 green tea

That's a pretty typical day on SureSlim for me - though I forgot my 2 tsp tahini.  Sometimes I find it difficult to fit everything in, would you believe?  There's no eating between meals at all, so everything has to be fit into one of the 3 meals.

I assume that when I've finished the 6 weeks I receive a maintenance diet - hopefully some form of pasta is included on that - I miss it!
UPDATE:  no, I don't receive a maintenance diet ... apparently I have to figure that out for myself - unless I want to pay for a 'Maintenance Programme' - GRRRRRR!!!

into the 80s ... x-mal deutschland

This was the first X-Mal Deutschland song I ever heard, about a million years ago - 'Incubus Succubus II', and my goodness it's a beauty!  A fantastic example of goth in the 80s, from (in my opinion) their best album, Tocsin.

the 'crazy bloomer lady'

Yes, that's me!  Now, dear readers ... I am an EXTREMIST (in case you haven't figured that out :P).  If I find a band I love, I must buy everything they've ever released.  And if I find clothing that I love, I must have a few of them, preferably in different colours ;)

It's been pretty hot in Australia lately, so I wondered whether bloomers would suit me - they're so cool, and would be so practical on weekends whilst stitching and running errands.  So I took a punt, and ordered a pair in stretch black knit fabric from Delightfully Deviant.

And here they are!!

So of course I've had to order another black pair, as well as a red and black striped pair (well, what does one wear when a pair is in the wash?) ;)  Pandora, the fabulously talented girl behind Delightfully Deviant, had never made them in stretch fabric before, and she was very excited at how they turned out!

After I ordered 2 more pairs (and kinda mentioned that 3 pairs are still not enough), she dubbed me the 'Crazy Bloomer Lady', heh heh ;)  Next pair will be hot pink and black stripes ...

PS - Pandora is also the seamstress behind Anita's fantastic white skirt in THIS entry ;)

back from robe!

Sorry about the jam-packed post, but I've been away for a few days and have only just managed to collate a few pics and get my thoughts together!

Robe is one of the most gorgeous towns in South Australia (well, I say 'one of the most' because I haven't physically visited each one ... though I bet it *is* the most!). This is our third visit, and second stay at Lakes Edge Robe, a gorgeous holiday house right on Lake Fellmongery.

I brought my study books for the year and went through them .. the new deck was the perfect location to do so!

Beachport - yes the ocean really *was* that colour!

Lily @ Beachport:

Lake Fellmongery -view from the back garden of Lakes Edge Robe:
The deck at the back of the house has been extended since our last visit - gorgeous!

We didn't have time to see the Bat Caves at Naracoorte, but we *did* have a coffee with a very cool bikkie ;)

And one of me trying to needlepoint without my frame stand ... balancing between a sofa and two chairs inside the house ... awkward much?  (FYI, the bats are finished ... pic soon!)

Even though I'm still on SureSlim, I made sure I still ate healthy foods ... the only exceptions were one soy latte from Mahalia Coffee, a couple of glasses of wine, two slices of bacon with my breakfast at Robe Providore, and some delicious salt & pepper squid from Wild Mulberry Cafe! Robe is definitely a foodie's delight ;)

Luckily, I didn't put on weight, but remained pretty much the same ... weight loss to date is 3.9kg!

All in all, a very relaxing few days away - we can't wait to return in winter!

While in Robe, I read through my study books for the year - a lot of work but I feel more in control when I'm organised. The first assignment is definitely a challenge - here's how much I've done so far (it's interpreting paintings using tapestry) - a cute little Miro 'alien':

Tapestry weaving, although making more sense than it did in my first year, still baffles me! One day I hope that it is as effortless and enjoyable as cross stitch ... you never know!

OK, that's enough for one post - I will do a separate post for my new obsession ... BLOOMERS!

vendemmian - 'masquerade'

Oh, and I was programming Shadowplay for next Sunday, and thought I'd better post this AMAZING goth rock song from the 90s - classic!!

first weigh-in ... a super-quick update

Would you believe I lost 3.6kg in my first week??!!

Of course, the first week is always the most dramatic ... but it's really motivated me to keep going!

On Thursday we're going to Robe for a few days - I. CAN'T. WAIT. !!!

(I'm allowing myself bacon with one of my breakfasts in Robe ... and maybe a big Mahalia coffee ;P)

day four ...

So, it's Day 4 of my SureSlim programme, and I'm finding it's all OK! The only difficulty is not being able to have my daily coffee and glass of wine - but I'm coping!

Like any programme, once you get the hang of the 'rules', it gets easier from there. Actually, I'm finding that at mealtimes I'm eating MORE! But of course they are healthier choices, and there's no snacking in between meals.

My first weigh in is Monday night ... my only difficulties coming up are a dinner at The Fleurieu Pantry on Saturday night (though the menu is pretty healthy, luckily!), and our trip to Robe next week (for 4 days). That will definitely be a test of how much I've learnt, and how badly I want to fit into those clothes!! Though I don't think a bit of bacon with my poached egg is going to hurt *too* much ... as long as I have a long walk afterwards ;)

Anyone else working on their 2012 goals?
