first week!

Firstly, I am typing this entry on my new toy ...

Anita has been nagging me to get rid of my old desktop for ages ... since I received a payout from my old job, I thought I'd get a laptop.  I must confess, the desktop is getting slower and slower :(   I wanted a pretty looking laptop to match my studio - and boy, is she pretty!!

Anyway ... my new job!  Well, everything is going great - I do credit approvals for a company which rents out musical instruments, both online applications and in selected music stores around the country.  It's very interesting, and I'm getting to learn about a whole range of instruments, from orchestral to fancy electric guitars and drumkits ;)  I work with an awesome group of people ... and I'm a 15 minute drive from home - more time for weaving!  And looks what's a 10 minute walk away from work:

I have been pretty busy - doing tapestry homework, weaving, going on foodie tours around Adelaide, etc.  And this is what's on the loom right now - it's hard to photograph, but the warp is turquoise and the weft plum:

It's looking gorgeous - I might have to keep the single length one for myself ;)

OK, back to the weaving - hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

sunday movie playlist

I love old movies, especially from the 30s and 40s.  Since I'm working on a small sampler at the moment on my small Mirrix loom, I've been watching old movies on YouTube - love them!  Here are the links to today's movies I've enjoyed ;)

'Where The Sidewalk Ends', 1950 (Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews):

'The Strange Woman', 1946 (Hedy Lamarr):

'The Old Dark House', 1932 (Boris Karloff) - link, unable to embed:

photoshoot by the sea

Anita, Tam and I did an impromptu photoshoot down the end of our street - dramatic landscape eh?

Although I've covered it on my main website, here are some of the images anyway ... firstly, my absolute favourite!

And a few model poses - seriously, these girls are awesome!!  :O

I'll be slowly adding them to my Facebook page ... have you 'liked' me yet?  And I've finally figured out how to do miniature 'galleries' on my main website - check out the Infinity Scarves page!  I must say, Blogger is so much easier to update than Wordpress - probably why I update more here than over there ;)

weekend in pictures

I think I'm finally catching up with my life!!  This weekend was the most relaxing I've had for a while, and I finally had time to clean up my studio, do some filing, and organise some weaving samples into what Anita is calling a 'Look Book'.  I wish my handwriting was more 'arty' though ;)

This pattern is still on the loom too - I wove this during Bowerbird Bazaar, but I never weave just one scarf on a warp - this one will have 3 single length infinity scarves on it - the first one's for Mel:

The next one (which had many kids mesmerised at Bowerbird - I think it's the colour :P) is in 'Lipstick Rose' - mmmm!  It's up for grabs if anyone is interested ;)

As well as weaving, yesterday it was not only Mother's Day, but also Lily's 6th birthday!  We went to Dragonfly Bar + Dining for dinner (yes, that was Lily's choice!!), and on Sunday Anita made a kitty birthday cake.  Lily also gave me a card for Mother's Day ... even though I technically refer to myself as a 'Bonus Mum', LOL!

And a kitty update!  Rosie is settling in very well - she's a strange one, very smoochy and loves to sit on laps.  But there's another side of her that is still an alley cat, wandering around looking for food.  I guess she still remembers being a street cat, though that was such a long time ago :(   Here she is sitting (precariously) on the kitty playground - this part is rather high, and leans on a dodgy angle :P

Frankie and Rosie are pretty good friends now - they are constantly chasing each other (playing noisily at 4.30am!!), and usually sit next to each other (note playful paw swipe):

Super cute!  Charlie (aka 'Grumpy Old Lady') hisses at both of them - she's still angry we brought Frankie home, let alone Rosie!!  :P  It's very hard getting a picture of her, since she has a knack of turning her head away when you try to take a picture - but here's a rare one:

Anita was cooking, and Charlie was 'helping'  ;)

That's been my weekend - hope yours was great too!

bowerbird bazaar ... and some other news!

On the weekend I was invited to join Bella and Kaye at Bowerbird Bazaar to demonstrate weaving - it was incredibly busy, incredibly exciting, and incredibly fun!!  Anita took the above snaps of me in action (note the 'concentration face', LOL!) ;)

My other news:  I have just quit my job of 7 1/2 years!  My role is moving to a shared services function interstate, and I didn't relish the idea of working within a Corporate taxation role ... luckily I was successful in securing a new position as a Credit Assessor with a fantastic company that rents out musical instruments.  An added bonus is that my new role is a 15 minute drive away from home, and pretty close to the ocean ;)  That means more time for weaving, as well as lovely lunchtime strolls!

I don't want to get all hippy-sounding on this blog, but I have learnt a very important lesson - when life seems to throw awful things at you, you really do benefit by having an 'open and allowing' attitude.  Don't get me wrong, when I found out my role was being made redundant, I was super-angry ... but after the anger, I forced myself to see the positives in the situation, and told myself that Life sends you the right things at the right time.  Go with the flow - I'm not saying you shouldn't do anything ... but only do things that seem right at the time, and feel good.  That's called 'inspired action'.  When you're angry and desperate, you block all the good things coming to you.  Try to relax ... and see what happens!

And that's as philosophical as I'm going to get around here - *wink*  ;)
