new infinity scarves

I have been so slack ... I don't know any weavers (or tapestry artists) who enjoy the 'finishing off' process ... these scarves have all been waiting to be washed, ironed and sewn - so I did that this morning ;)

Art Deco Fan in Plum + Black (for Anita's Oma, who is in her 80s):

A 'Gentleman's Scarf', for Anita's dad - I need to promote more to those men out there!

And Anita wanted one in the same Geometric design - in black + charcoal, which matches everything!

OK, back to it!

organising the studio - part 2

Part 2 of our little journey into my studio ... I got rid of the heavy bookcase (can you imagine how difficult it was to get it down the narrow spiral staircase?  We got professional help!), and replaced it with some Ikea Expedit units.

And gone is my old desktop ... I've been slowly transferring stuff to my new laptop, and last weekend it was time to wipe it and get rid of it.

And here is the western side of the room ... the only thing that needs to be replaced here is the daggy 70s dining chair ... one day I'll save up for a nice armchair ;)

It's nearly there ... next on my hitlist is a new cover for the sofa, and new window dressings.

When designing the perfect workspace, you have to bear in mind the space that you occupy.  I wouldn't normally have chosen white furniture and white walls ... but when you live in an architecturally striking house, minimalism is best (I can't believe I just typed that!).  But the older I get, the more I love minimalism - a clean, tidy workspace just makes me feel more organised ;)

I'm on a Facebook group called Siouxsie (The Banshees & Other Creatures), and have noticed people posting all sorts of clippings and articles ... I remembered that I had some interesting things in my collection, and thought I'd better scan them.

Here are a few to start with ... about 20 years ago I bought a stack of 12" discs from a second hand record shop, and a few of them had the lyrics (probably from Smash Hits magazine) stuck on the disc protector - priceless!

vintage knitting pattern: 'angela'

Would you believe I've actually knitted this one?  It looks great ... but just not on me!  Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to take a picture of myself wearing it ;)  It's from 'Patons Knitting Book No. 246'.

New bloomers from Delightfully Deviant!!

Apologies for the self-conscious posing ... in fact, I'd like to ask any readers out there - how do you pose without feeling like an idiot?  Do you take a zillion shots and hope one comes out, or do you practise practise practise?  I really need tips!  I'm thinking especially of Meagan and Franny, who always manage to look comfortable and natural in their pics ;)

Although many people think that I put a lot of effort into my appearance (well, I do spend a lot of time on my HAIR!), I'm actually pretty lazy with clothing - on weekends I only wear bloomers ... bloomers with band t-shirts, mostly, and then add a jacket (like this favourite Tripp one I'm wearing here), which tends to spruce up an outfit effortlessly ;)

Something else I've been thinking about is saving up for bespoke shoes.  I hate buying shoes ... my feet are small and wide, and I have to go to those 'special' (and expensive) shops to get shoes that fit me.  Most fashion shoes are too narrow - TUKs are fine, but they don't come in half sizes, so are usually a bit big.  When I look at my shoe collection, I really only wear a few pairs in rotation anyway.

By accident, I came across Eugenia Neave, a bespoke shoe maker in Glenelg (not far from where I live).  After looking at her shoes on Instagram, it got me thinking about how in the past people only had one or two pairs of good, expensive shoes that they had repaired quite a bit and kept for years.  So I'm making it my mission to save up for my first pair and see how they go.  When I contacted her, she gave me an estimate price, and suggested I start getting together a 'look book' of what I want so we can design a pair together.  Perfect!  I'll keep you posted ... but for the moment I'm thinking cute lolita-style mary janes with a slightly pointed toe.  I'd love to eventually have one pair of mary janes and a pair of pixie boots ;)

update ... and a rant

Apologies for the crappy blog post title ... I'm not particularly inspired to blog at the moment!  No, nothing bad happening - quite the opposite!  I love my new job, and have been weaving like a maniac - I haven't been on the computer as much as I usually am.

Before I start ranting - here's a cute picture of Frankie:

I have just UNfollowed a whole pile of blogs, mainly because I was getting bored of the same old stuff being posted - the blogiverse is pretty cliquey ... I notice the more outspoken I am, the less people comment here, confirming my opinion that a lot of people suck up to some bloggers in order to attract more followers.  That sort of popularity contest has never interested me before, and certainly doesn't now.  In fact, many blogs with lots of followers are the ones that are very 'safe', not saying much at all ...

OK, rant over - I promise!

I have been weaving ... to the point that my tapestry homework is falling by the wayside.  I only have 3 subjects this year, and only one of them is actual tapestry weaving.  The other 2 are theoretical - a sustainability topic (now completed, albeit rushed), and a Business subject.  I *love* tapestry weaving, but am champing at the bit to do my own Goth Deathrock Art Project work rather than boring samplers ... I know I have so much more to learn, but what I really need is practice, practice and more practice.

So this is what I've been weaving - just finished these two, already sold:

And just off the loom:

This afternoon I'll be warping up again - making a geometric-style scarf for Anita's dad ;)

Thanks to my new job, I get to weave for about 1/2 hour before work, and at least 1 hour after work - it's so great working closer to home - I can't believe how much time I used to waste travelling!

Oh, and I almost forgot, got my hair done yesterday ... this is me being an anti-fashion blog, LOL!
